We believe that politics is only for a few elite members of the society and because of this reason most of us feel disconnected to the democratic process. However not all politicians are rich and not all of them have come from privilege to be in a position of authority. The entire point of democracy is to create a set up where the general public can chose the leaders they want to be governed by and it can be anyone.
The story of Haseena Baigum, a long time party worker for PML-N and a current MPA proves that politicians come in all shapes and sizes and you don’t necessarily have to be rich to be a politician. She has spent her entire political career trying to do right by her community and she is an example for how ordinary men and women have the power to change their circumstances through an active participation in the electoral process.
